Verizon Wireless formally announces the Droid 2

This is one of the first Android phones that will come with version 2.2 (Froyo) pre-installed. It will also feature Adobe Flash Player.
10.1, Swype, 8GB of memory, plus a microSD card with an additional 8GB more in it.

It also features a 5 Megapixel camera as well as raised keyboard, something that the original Droid did not have. Droid 2 also has a faster 1GHz TI OMAP processor and twice as much RAM than its predecessor.

The Droid 2 will be available for pre-sale on the Verizon website on August 11, and then will be in stores on August 12 for $199.99 with a two-year contract as well as a $100 mail-in rebate. If you want, you can pay an extra $20 monthly fee that will make your Droid 2 a mobile hot spot for five devices with Hotspot Service.

If you are willing to wait, you can get a special limited edition of the Droid 2 that is an homage to everyone’s favorite Droid with a 2 in its name, R2-D2. It will be out in September, and have exclusive Star Wars content and an R2-D2 look.
